Update - Water sale in northern Victoria

The VEWH announced the sale of up to 10 gigalitres of allocation in northern Victoria on 15 March 2019. This sale of allocation has now been completed.

The water was made available to the market through selected brokers and on-line platforms.

The sale of allocation was consistent with VEWH’s 2018-19 Water Allocation Trading Strategy, which flagged a potential sale of allocation was more likely to occur in the second half of the water (financial) year.

The VEWH will deliver water for all priority environmental watering actions that could be achieved given the dry conditions this year, with enough water available to carry over to support predicted demand in 2019-20.

The proceeds from the sale will be invested in projects to boost native fish populations in northern Victoria. Further information will be provided in the coming months.

The VEWH’s Water Allocation Trading Strategy outlines potential allocation trading activities that may be carried out by the VEWH throughout the year. Please see www.vewh.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/490863/VEWH-water-allocation-trade-strategy-2018-19_final.pdf
