Water for Vinifera
09 May 2019
Water for the environment is being delivered to Vinifera during April and May to support the many waterbirds, microbats, frogs, sugar gliders and wallabies that live on or visit the floodplain.
The watering event aims to inundate 78 hectares to provide food, connect habitats and rejuvenate fauna at the low-lying floodplain.
The Seasonal Watering Plan for the Vinifera floodplain initially planned to receive water late last year. But the watering was moved to autumn to allow the wetland to completely dry out. This helped eliminate carp, allow clay cracks to form providing habitat for insects, reptiles and small mammals, and accumulate additional carbon and nutrients in the soil.
