Environmental water for the MurrayThe VEWH has approved the delivery of environmental water from its Water Holdings to boost the environmental health of three Murray River wetlands in the Victorian Mallee.

The environmental water is being delivered to promote fish breeding, improve the health of river red gums and other wetland plants, and protect the nationally threatened Murray hardyhead fish.

The Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) will manage the delivery of up to 2,000 ML to Heywoods Lake, up to 1,000 ML to Cardross Lakes (Basin 1) and up to 150ML to Sandilong Creek.

The delivery of environmental water to these wetlands will be made in line with the Seasonal Watering Plan 2011-12.

Seasonal watering statements formally authorise the Mallee CMA to order and deliver environmental water from the River Murray Flora and Fauna Bulk Entitlement on behalf of the VEWH.

Environmental water releases will not be made where there is a likelihood of flooding private land or property.
